Q: Do I need to create an account?

You can browse our content without an account, but creating a free account lets you track your progress, save your favorite content, and access personalized recommendations.

Q: What level of Japanese do I need to start?

Absolutely none! Our guided course starts from zero—teaching you hiragana and katakana—and takes you all the way to advanced proficiency. We also have a level assessment test to help you find the right starting point.

Q: What are the learning apps?

We offer four focused learning apps: Grammar Hammer (grammar patterns), Kanji Driller (kanji practice), Vocab Saw (vocabulary building), and Listening Wrench (listening comprehension). Each app uses proven techniques like spaced repetition and context-based learning.

Q: What is the Kanji Story?

The Ultimate Kanji Learning Story is a 200-chapter narrative that teaches all 2,000 common-use kanji. Each chapter introduces 10 new kanji in context, making learning natural and memorable through continuous storytelling.

Q: How do graded readers work?

Q: How do you choose what content to recommend?

All our recommendations come from real experience. We only recommend content we've personally consumed and believe is valuable for learners. We rate difficulty honestly and explain why something is or isn't worth your time.

Q: What do the difficulty ratings mean?

Our difficulty ratings (0-100) are relative to authentic Japanese materials and categorized by content type (manga, novels, etc.). We use a tier system: Beginner Friendly (0-20), Easy (21-40), Intermediate (41-60), Advanced (61-80), and Expert (81-100).

Q: Can I request content reviews?

Absolutely! Contact us with your suggestions. We prioritize reviewing content that multiple users request or that fits well with common learner interests.

Q: Do you have affiliate relationships?

We maintain complete honesty in our recommendations. We don't let affiliate relationships influence our reviews—if something is boring or too difficult, we'll say so.

You can manage your subscription from your Account settings page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you'll retain access until then.

Yes. We use industry-standard encryption for passwords, secure authentication through NextAuth, and our database is hosted on Neon's secure infrastructure. We never sell or share your personal data.
